The joint secretary-level meeting of Nepal and Bangladesh has started to set the agenda for the energy secretary-level talks.
Madhu Prasad Vetwal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, is leading the negotiations of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on behalf of Nepal.
On behalf of Bangladesh, a team led by the joint secretary of the Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources is participating.
The agenda set by the joint secretary-level meeting will be presented in the discussion of the secretary-level meeting on Thursday.
Bangladesh wants to build hydropower in Nepal and take it to its own country. Bangladesh has shown interest in Sunkoshi III (683 MW).
The team including the secretary of Bangladesh has also inspected the construction site of the project and the proposed reservoir area.
Similarly, Bangladesh has also shown interest in building the Khimti Temple (1547 MW).
Nepal is also ready to allow Bangladesh to build a hydroelectric project. Bangladesh is also ready to make it. But since India is in the middle of the road, it has not yet decided whether to give way to electricity.
In the meeting, the possibilities of electricity trade between Nepal and Bangladesh, the possibilities of Nepal's hydropower investment, the possibility of cross-border electricity trade between the two countries, the participation of Bangladeshi companies in Nepal's hydropower development, the progress of Bangladesh importing 500 MW of the 900 MW produced from Upper Karnali in Nepal, bilateral capacity were discussed. There is a program to discuss issues related to growth and initiatives.
