FinMin to announce budget for fiscal year 2078/79 at 4pm

Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Poudel is scheduled to unveil the budget for the fiscal year 2078/79 today.

Minister Poudel will announce the budget at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu at 4:00 pm, according to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's Press Advisor Surya Thapa.

While assuming office on May 14, Minister Poudel had stated that the budget would focus on reviving and giving momentum to the economy that has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

He also said that the government will utilise all available resources in the fight against the spread of the contagion. The minister also said the government will put in all its efforts in the treatment of patients who have been infected with the virus.

Earlier on Friday, Minister Poudel stated that achieving the economic growth target for the current fiscal year will be very difficult. He had mentioned this while making the Economic Survey of the current fiscal year 2077/78 public.

The coronavirus pandemic and the prohibitory orders imposed across the country have massively affected economic activities in the country. As a result, achieving the economic growth target set by the government will be challenging, Minister Poudel said.
