The first day of this year's Secondary School Examination (SEE) that started across the country from 8:00 am today concluded peacefully.

According to Examinations Controller Bishnu Narayan Shrestha, the SEE was held in 2,036 examination centers in all 77 districts in the country and the one set up in Japan.

On the first day, the students attended exams for compulsory English while the students from the Sanskrit stream took exams for compulsory Sanskrit language and literature and compulsory Nepali.

The examination of a student in the Bara district has been canceled because she attempted to leak the question paper. The question paper was prevented from leakage and she was barred from taking the exam while other examinees continued with their exam, shared Examination Controller Shrestha. The concerned authority is looking into the matter, he said.

Similarly, this year's examinee includes a student mourning the demise of his parent at Nawalparsi (Bardaghat Susta Purba). Ram Bahadur Tharu, a student of Janata Secondary School in Madhyabindu Municipality-6 in the district, appeared in the exam in course of mourning.

Among the total 484,227 students registered for the SEE, 55 students with visual impairment also sat for the exam. A separate sub-center was set nearby the main exam center for them to appear in the exam.

Similarly, students who were in prisons and reform houses for various reasons also took the exam from their respective places, informed Shrestha.

The examinees also include 14 students sitting for exams in Japan's center. Shrestha shared that the students in Japan are taking their SEE from an academic institution in Tokyo that teaches Nepali curriculum with the approval from the government of Japan.

A total of 78,000 human resources have been mobilized at the examination centers. Altogether 5 million sets of question papers were published for this year's SEE. The exam will last through April 12.
