The flood in Madi River on Tuesday night wreaked havoc in four hydropower projects in Madi Rural Municipality of Kaski district.

The incessant rain for some days caused the Madi River to swell that damaged the hydel projects. The 44- megawatt under construction- Super Madi Hydel sustained the majority of the damage while three others suffered partial damage, said Madi Rural Municipality Chairperson Bed Bahadur Gurung.

The 10-megawatt Siklesh Hydro Power, 12-megawatt Himalayan Hydro (Narmajung) and 25-megawatt Apar Madi were damaged by the flood.

Power production in the rural municipality has been stalled, Gurung said. The Sikles Hydel is at risk of being swept away. Its transmission line has already been swept away.

The labourers and staffers at these under-construction hydel projects were relocated to the safer areas today, it was shared.
