Funds collected for Gurung language classes in Muglin

A fund has been established for conducting Gurung (Tamu) language classes. The Tamu Hule Chonja Dhin Gurung National Council, The umbrella organization of the Gurung community has set up a fund for conducting Tamu (Gurung) mother tongue classes.

The Council has set up the 'Tamu (Gurung) Mother Tongue classes Operation Fund-2021 'with the objective of teaching mother tongue to the Gurung community across the country, said Council Chair Resham Gurung. The objective is also to preserve the language that is disappearing with the passing of generations. As the main donor for the establishment of the fund, the Tamu Dhin Khyangsangnamo branch established in Korea has provided financial assistance of Rs. 300,000.

The branch was founded with the objective of studying, researching and preserving, enhancing and developing the language, script, religion, art, culture, customs, traditions, etc. of the Tamu (Gurungs). The amount was handed over to the council by the main donor of the fund, Khyangsangnamdo Branch, South Korea, by organizing a program virtually on Saturday, said the council chair, Gurung.

According to him, the council will run Tamu (Gurung) mother tongue classes as per the need in various Tamu villages of the country from the proceeds of the fund. Meanwhile, an agreement has been signed between the council and the Kyangsangnam branch of South Korea to operate the fund.

The agreement has been signed by the chairman of the council Gurung and the chairman of Khyangsangnamdo Anish Gurung. As the language, religion and culture of the Gurung community are disappearing as of late, various Gurung organizations have emphasized on preservation and protection of it.
