The National News Agency (RSS) a few days ago disseminated news under the headline, 'Hunger more than disease likely to kill people, highlighting the condition of the Gandharva settlement at Kachankawal rural municipality-2 in Jhapa. With the publication of the news which was carried by other several media, people have started visiting the settlement with food.

“We are getting helping hands after our story came in the media. We are seeing donors in the settlement with relief assistance. Some arrived here with rice, some with cooking oil, and some with salt, soap, and other most essential daily goods," said Eastern Regional Gandharva Uplitment Society secretary Rajiv Gandharva.

“We are greatly relieved,’’ he said. According to him, food in each house in the settlement had run out of stock and they need not worry about the food management for some days.

On Friday, social worker Jwala Sangraula distributed a sack of rice each to 45 households in the settlement. The assistance is worth over Rs 90,000.

Similarly, the Satya Sai Sewa Sangathan Province 1 has assisted salt, cooking oil, and lentils to the community people. Gandharva people whose main occupation is to entertain people by playing the Sarangi (a traditional musical instrument) are threatened with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Likewise, Kedar Gandari of Kathmandu has send Rs 90,000 through the RSS Jhapa office for their assistance while the Nepal Chemists Druggists’ Association has managed food stuff worth Rs 100 thousand for the supplies to the settlement.
