A 16-year-old girl has been gang-raped in Banke by a man who met her through Facebook. According to Banke Police Spokesperson Madhusudan Neupane, 17-year-old Hem Raj Tharu and friends raped the girl.
She was taken to Man khola on the Banke-Bardiya border to celebrate her friend Hem Raj's birthday. However, he and five others took her to the forest and raped her.
Police spokesperson Neupane said that the girl was first taken to the forest of Man Khola and later to Tahara and raped for two days.
Police have arrested seven people, including five involved in the rape and two accomplices. Among the arrested are Hem Raj Tharu, Nirajan Tharu, Bikrant Tharu, Praveen Tharu, Raj Kumar Tharu, Vishwanath Tharu and Nirdesh Tharu.
While two persons were bringing the unconscious girl to Nepalgunj on a motorcycle, the police had arrested them.
When she regained consciousness, she told the police she had been raped.
