The government has formally advanced the processes to procure 2 million doses of 'Covishield' vaccine to administer against the COVID-19.
At a news conference today, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung said that the government has decided to issue a directive to remove the difficulties to facilitate the procurement of Covishield vaccines directly from the vaccine producing companies.
Minister Gurung added that the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers would publish a notice as an addendum in the Nepal Gazette on vaccine procurement.
He argued that the order to remove the difficulty was needed since there was no provision of prepaid payment without keeping advance guarantee in the Public Procurement Act, 2063.
With the government decision, the Department of Health Services started the procurement of Covishield vaccine directly from the producer for once by considering the present special situation.
The vaccine would be bought as per the terms and condition for price and payment release determined by the vaccine producing company.
The payment would be made through the Nepal Rastra Bank.
Similarly, Minister Gurung, who is also the government spokesperson, said that a new slogan 'Communications for Prosperity' has been proposed by reviewing the previous slogan of communications for development.
