Banshu (Bansha) Gurung Memorial Foundation has stressed that the nation should recongise the contribution of hunter Sardar Banshu Gurung by honouring him with the title of a national luminary.
A delegation from the Foundation headed by lawmaker of Tanahu-2, Shankar Bhandari, today submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' with the demand to declare Gurung a national hero.
The Foundation also sought the publication of a postage stamp in the name of Gurung. The delegation also drew the government's attention to ensure the archiving of Gurung's contributions to the nation, said Lekh Gurung.
The state should ensure budget allocation to the Foundation, established in the name of Banshu Gurung, he added, saying the Prime Minister was positive towards the demands.
Born in Tanahu, Banshu Gurung was well known for his hunting skills at the time and he defeated the British in the 1824 BS battle in Sindhuligadhi.
