Govt warns websites for airing offensive content against president

The government has warned that it will shut down websites that air news or opinion pieces that have offensive content against President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.

Government Spokesperson Parbat Gurung, who is also Minister of Communication and Information Technology, issued a statement today mentioning that those websites which have offensive content against the president will be shut down.

He said that it has come to the notice of the ministry that some websites had been airing video content with offensive language aimed at the president by using domains unlawfully.

Gurung also mentioned that the Press Council will be monitoring such websites regularly and if found guilty will be closed down through Nepal Telecommunications Authority.
