The Ministry of Health and Population has urged all concerned to return the empty oxygen cylinders that they might have in their possession. The ministry has stated that health institutions are facing problems in treating patients infected with COVID-19 due to the shortage of oxygen. Hence, it has requested people to return the empty cylinders to the respective oxygen manufacturing plants.
Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari, Joint Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population, released a statement today urging individuals and organisations to return empty oxygen cylinders if they do have any. He mentioned that since empty cylinders are not being returned to the manufacturing plants on time oxygen cannot be produced in a timely manner thus creating a shortage of the commodity.
He has further said in the statement that oxygen cylinders have been distributed in various parts of the country at homes, wards, isolation centres and hospitals. However, since the empty cylinders are not being returned to the manufacturing plants on time it is becoming difficult to manage oxygen supply which is an essential commodity for the treatment of COVID-infected patients, he added.
Dr Adhikari has also urged hospitals to keep stock of adequate supply of oxygen and repair their oxygen plants and tanks if there are any problems so that oxygen supply is not disrupted. The number of infections has dropped but the danger of the coronavirus is still high, he mentioned.
