Minister for Forest and Environment, Dr Birendra Prasad Mahato, has said various countries had begun following Nepali culture.
Minister Mahato said it while inaugurating the fourth national general convention of the Homestay Federation at Madi, Chitwan on Friday. The homestay has a special role to preserve and promote Nepali culture, thereby contributing to prosperity, he added.
"Our cultures, civilization, and traditions are kept vibrant with the help of homestay. The homestay facility also helped in making Nepali culture known to the world," Minister Mahato lauded, adding that even foreigners visit Nepal to study the traditions and culture here.
The Minister, however, commented that Nepal, despite being rich in culture and civilization, has not been able to deliver hospitality up to the mark. He stressed the need for expanding homestay facilities.
The Minister vowed State support for preservation of culture.
The office bearers of the Federation said Madi Valley of Chitwan could be developed as a homestay city.
The general convention is attended by some 500 homestay representatives from across the country. Currently, the homestay facilities are run in 68 districts in Nepal.
The event is electing a new working committee.
