HoR dissolution: Reply debate begins

Lawyers representing Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota, have started placing their arguments before the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, in Kathmandu, on July 4, 2021.

The reply debate (counter-arguments) on the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) on the behalf of writ petitioners has started in the Supreme Court since Sunday.

To this, senior advocate Harihar Dahal has been presenting his counter-argument on the issue today.

Senior advocate Raman Kumar Shrestha on Sunday began with the reply debate in the constitutional bench after pleading over the dissolution of the parliament from the lawyers on behalf of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota had ended on Sunday itself.

The Constitutional bench comprises Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana and Justices Dilip Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, and Dr Aananda Mohan Bhattarai.

After senior advocate Dahal, other senior advocates- Shambhu Thapa and Badri Bahadur Karki are scheduled to present their counter-arguments. Among the three hours of time frame fixed for the reply debate, two hours remained for the advocates to present their counter-arguments.

The Amicus Curiae consists of senior advocates Raghav Lal Baidya and Usha Malla from Nepal Bar Association and senior advocate duo Komal Prasad Ghimire and Prakash Bahadur KC from Supreme Bar Association.

The Amicus Curiae will have its turn after the reply debate is over during which its members will put forth their opinions on the issues impartially in a bid to assist the court in the fair decision-making process.
