The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has directed hospitals to separate 20 per cent of their beds for the treatment of children infected with COVID-19.

Chief of the Quality Assessment and Monitoring Division of the MoHP, Dr Madan Kumar Upadhyaya, has issued a statement today urging the hospitals to separate 20 per cent of their total beds for the treatment of children infected with the coronavirus.

The statement mentions that since mostly youths and old-aged people had been infected during the first and second waves of the coronavirus preparations were done accordingly. However, if and when there is a third and second wave then children could likely be the ones most infected with COVID-19, said Dr Upadhyaya, adding that preparations need to be made according to that scenario in consideration.

He has also directed the hospitals to be prepared with sufficient medical oxygen supply.
