One of the biggest festivals of the newar community; Indra Jatra starts from today. A lingam (wooden pole) raising ceremony has been conducted today at 6:51 am at Basantapur Square in front of the old Hanuman Dhoka Palace.
The Indradhvajotthan was done with the help of Nepal Army personnel. After the ceremony, the chariot of Kumari, the Living Goddess, is taken out in a procession through the main streets of Kathmandu.
The Kumari Goddess is scheduled to visit the upper areas on the 4th of Asoj, informed Hanumandhoka Palace Museum Development Committee chair Sandip Khanal. On the 8th of Asoj Nanincha yatra will be held while the Indradhvajotthan fall has been set at 10:36 pm informed Khanal.
The Indra Jatra festival will be observed for 15 days.
