Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, Hanan Goder, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, on Wednesday. During the meeting held at ministry, issues including information technology and development of agriculture were discussed, according to Minister Sharma's secretariat.
Minister Sharma, who is also the spokesperson of the government, reminded that Nepal government had prioritized development of IT. It was willing to cooperate with Israel for its expansion. She further said there was however significant development in IT sector as compared to the past in Nepal.
The Minister also reminded the Ambassador that government's policy and programmes had also put in priority the IT sector for the development of digital economy. "Expansion of information and communications technology has gained pace across the country," she mentioned.
According to Minister Sharma, 5G service was on test in Nepal while expansion of 4G service was reaching final stage. Nepal wants to have its own satellite and develop and expand IT accordingly, which, she believed, would give new dimension to this sector.
In response, Ambassador Goder observed that Nepal was making stride in several other sectors including IT for some years. Effective development of IT is the global priority, he added.
