Vehicles and equipment are seen at the site of under-construction Nagdhunga tunnel, on Friday, February 12, 2021. The tunnel road has been expected to ease the traffic congestion seen along the Naubise-Nagdhunga section of the highway.

A tunnel connecting Kushe Gaon palika-8 Sangta of Jajarkot and Tatopani Gaon palika-8 Emilchaghari of Jumla will be constructed. The Center for Quality Research and Development (QRDC) of the Road Department has already issued the information for the feasibility study.

Former Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet said that the Department of Roads has already invited bids for the feasibility study of the tunnel. "Feasibility study is underway for the construction of the tunnel and opening of a new road track," he said.

The length from Jajarkot Sangta and Jumla to Emilchaghari is about 10 kilometers. For the construction of the tunnel, about five kilometers of mountain holes should be dug and roads should be constructed in other areas, said former minister Basnet. "We have been demanding the government of Nepal for a feasibility study of the tunnel since the past," said CPN (Maoist Center) leader and state assembly member Ganes Prasad Singh.

From Jajarkot to Jumla you have to walk uphill for about 10 hours. If the tunnel is constructed, Jumla can be reached in 30 minutes, said Singh. "If this tunnel is constructed, it will be a short circuit connecting Rara via Lumbini, Dang, Salyan, Jajarkot and Jumla," he said.
