Journalist Shiva Hari Bhattarai has been found dead today. Chairperson of the Madhes Province Media Council, Bhattarai was found dead while asleep in a bedroom belonging to the Holiday Resort at Pathankot of Lalbandi Municipality-13 in Sarlahi district, said the council secretary Sunil Thakur.
A permanent resident of Saptari district, Bhattarai was living in Janakpur. He was 67. Bhattarai had reached Sarlahi to take part in the 11th anniversary of the Sarlahi chapter of the Federation of the Nepali Journalists.
After having dinner together with his friends last night, he went to his bedroom in the resort- to be found dead by his friends on Saturday morning. His friends reported the incident to the police after he did not wake up late this morning.
Bhattarai and his friends slept in separate rooms that night, said the resort proprietor Bimal Nagarkoti.
Medicines for diabetes and blood pressure were recovered from the bedroom where he slept that night, said Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bijaya Shrestha.
Inspector of Police Shanta Ram Karki informed that his body would be taken to the Province Hospital, Malangawa for the examination.
