Police have confiscated old temple bells weighing over six quintals from Mahendranagar bazaar in Kanchanpur district.
A team deployed from the District Police Office (DPO) raided the godown belonging to a businessperson Padam Thakurathi in Mahendranagar bazaar and seized the bells, said Police Inspector Lal Bahadur Bam.
The police also arrested two people employed by Thakurathi to shine the bells and the equipment in this process. The arrestees have been identified as Padak Koli of Bhimdatta Municipality-15 and Dhaniram Tamata of Baitadi district.
Further probe into the case is underway, he said, adding that Thakurathi and office bearers of the Siddha Baijanath temple working committee would be called for an investigation.
Thakurathi, however, claimed that he had purchased the bells auctioned by the committee.
