Karnali highway blocked due to landslides

Vehicular traffic on the Karnali highway has been obstructed due to a landslide occurred at Hulma of Kalikot district.

Similarly, works are in progress to open various sections of the highway blocked due to landslides. the highway was blocked at Timure, Galje and Pili among other places in Tilagupha municipality due to flooding and landslips following incessant rains.

Works are being carried out to resume traffic on the highway by the evening today, said Chitra Chaulagain, the Information Officer at the Division Road Office, Jumla.

The major five highways in Karnali province – the Karnali, the Mid-hill, the Madan Bhandari, the Rapti and the Bheri Corridor – are obstructed due to landslides.

The Karnali Province Police Office said that the Karnali highway is blocked at four places, the Mid-hills highway at four places, the Rapti highway at two places, the Madan Bhandari highway at one place and the Bheri Corridor highway at three places due to landslides and floods.

The passengers travelling by these highways have been stranded since two days.

Jayaprithvi highway obstructed

Similarly, a report from Bajhang said the Jayaprithvi highway has been obstructed due to a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall since Friday. The highway is blocked since Saturday due to the occurrence of a landslide at Khodpe near the Bajhang and Baitadi border. Chief District Officer of Bajhang, Bishwamitra Kuinkel, said that efforts are on to open the highway at the coordination between the two districts – Bajhang and Baitadi.
