The Public Prosecutors Office, Kathmandu, has returned the investigation report of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Nepal Police in the Lalita Niwas case.

Chief of the Public Prosecutors Office's Office, Kathmandu, Ganga Prasad Poudel said that they were sent back as the information was insufficient in the investigation and some more issues needed to be investigated.

The CIB had arrested Ram Kumar Subedi and his wife Madhavi, one of the main accused in the Lalita Niwas land case, on December 22 for tampering with government documents. The CIB had asked the office to prosecute more than 300 people, saying others were also involved in the case.

According to the Criminal Code 2074, the case should be prosecuted within two years of being found. Accordingly, the deadline to file a case in the Lalita Niwas case has expired on Monday.

Chief of the Office, Poudel, said that the incident took place before the introduction of the Criminal Code. "Since this incident took place before the enactment of the new Criminal Code, this case will proceed in accordance with the Civil Code 2020," he said. Therefore, the two-year term will not be implemented, 'said Chief Poudel.
