Today is the Mahanavami of the Dashain festival. On this day Goddess Nawa Durga is worshipped and the jamara which is sown on Ghatasthapana is also offered to the Goddess.
The ninth goddess of Nawa Durga, Goddess Siddidatri is worshipped today. Girls are also considered the incarnation of Goddess Durga and worshipped on this day.
Goats, hens, ducks, Sheep, Buffaloes, etc are offered to the Goddess today. Vegetarians also offer different vegetables like radish, cucumber, coconut, Kubindo, etc to the goddess.
According to the Markandeya Puran, on the day of Mahanavami Goddess Durga had defeated the "Raktabij" demon which makes this day celebratory and important.
On this day "Kot puja" and "Nisan puja" is also observed. Army personnel and officials of Hanuman Dhoka Durbar do the "Kot puja" with musical bands.
