President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has said literary workers should make further contributions to social transformation in the changed context.

At a prize distribution programme organised by Nepal Academy at the President’s Office on Wednesday, President Bhandari reminded that the literary writers have played a significant role in the social transformation. They have an unrivalled role to promote national sentiment, she said, adding that honour to such persons earns national repute.

The writers, as she said, are the intellects who express national aspiration in the country rich in lingual and cultural diversity.

The President also paid tributes to pioneering poet Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya on the occasion of his 208th birth anniversary. Bhanubhakta’s works have contributed much to Nepali language and literature, Bhandari viewed.

Chancellor of Nepal Academy, Ganga Upreti, informed that the academy has begun honouring even the international persons who have contributed to Nepali language, literature and translation.

At the programme, various national and international literary writers were honoured with Pragyalankar Award. Similarly, those winning in the National Poetry Symposium- 2077 and 2078 were given prizes at the programme.
