The local level of Banke has started preparing a revenue reform action plan to increase internal revenue. Kohalpur Municipality and Baijnath Municipality have already prepared the action plan while Khajura Municipality is in the process of preparing the action plan.
Mayor Lut Bahadur Rawat said that a plan has been worked out to increase the internal revenue and revenue of Kohalpur Municipality. According to him, based on the analysis and discussion on the financial report of the municipality for the last three fiscal years, a revenue reform action plan with revenue projection for the next three years has been prepared.
As Kohalpur's internal revenue is currently only 10 percent of the total budget, it is projected to increase to 15 percent in the next three years. Similarly, the revenue improvement action plan has been prepared with the projection of increasing the internal revenue of Baijnath village municipality from four percent of the total budget to nine percent in the next three years.
Kohalpur Municipality and Baijnath Village Municipality have prepared a revenue improvement action plan in collaboration with the Provincial Training Institute Nepalgunj and in consultation with the Center for Good Governance and Development Management. Tikaram Panthi, chairman and facilitator of the Center for Good Governance and Development Management, said that the revenue reform action plan with revenue projection for the next three years has been prepared based on the analysis and discussion on the local level economic reports of the last three years.
According to him, the report has been prepared after interaction between the field survey, ward office, branch of the municipality, industry trade association, and municipal economic development committee for the preparation of revenue reform action plan.
Dil Bahadur Pariyar, the coordinator of the Economic Development Committee of Kohalpur, said that it would be easier to work now that the revenue reform action plan has been formulated. This year, only three local levels of Banke are preparing revenue improvement action plans. Hargovind Pandey, the facilitator of the Center for Good Governance and Development Management, said that the project has been prepared by Kohalpur Municipality and Baijnath Municipality and is being prepared in Khajuraho. According to him, 35 local levels of Lumbini province are preparing a revenue reform action plan this fiscal year.
