Regardless of the cold weather in the morning, children and old people have started the fast of Madhav Narayan Mela by dipping in cold water at Trivenidham in Hanuman Ghat of Bhaktapur. The one-month fair, which started from the 8th century of Nepal Samvat, has started in Bhaktapur from today.

Gopal Sharma, a member of the Madhav Narayan Vrat Management Committee and a priest, informed that the fast started every year from Poush Shukla Purnima to Magh Shukla Purnima.

He said that this fair and fast had been mentioned in the inscriptions and other texts which started here even before the Shali river of Sankhu. He said that a person who fasts for one month, bathe in Triveni in the morning and worship with pure water and worship materials.

This year, the fast at Triveni in Hanuman Ghat has been postponed due to coronavirus infection. Uddhav Khaitu, chairman of the Madhavnarayan Dhalaun Service Committee, Hanuman Ghat, said that the fair was limited to formalities after the decision was taken not to allow the general public to stay there this year to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

This year, no one will be allowed to observe Madhav Narayan's fast for one month at Hanuman Ghat, but only a limited number of people will be kept so as not to break the tradition of fasting. Though not allowed to fast due to crowds, daily worship at Triveni and recitation of Madhav Narayan's story and daily bathing at Hanuman Ghat Triveni Kund will be done regularly.
