Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki has said that due to the active role of the Nepali Press and Bar Association, the leadership confusion in the court has been removed for a long time. It was mentioned that since the Supreme Court had to rely on the leadership of the Acting Chief Justice for a long time, it affected the judicial proceedings.
He highly praised the press world for showing incomparable activism to protect the independence of the court.
On Tuesday, he told the Press Council Nepal team that if the press world and the Bar Association had not come forward for the appointment of the Chief Justice, it would have been difficult to reach this day and he said that he would never forget that aspect. "I fought for the rights of the press and the bar while practicing law or working as a human rights activist. Now I have been rewarded by the press and the bar," Chief Justice Karki added, "I have a short tenure, but I am committed to doing my part for freedom of the press."
In the meeting program held at the Chief Justice's Chamber in the Supreme Court, Karki informed that he would take significant steps to maintain judicial cleanliness during his term of office.
Noting that the court has not yet become financially autonomous, Chief Justice Karki suggested that all parties should be serious about the fact that even one percent of the total national budget has not been allocated. Karki said that the parties fighting for the independence of the courts should consider this area as well. In some courts, there is a problem of pickpocketing due to overcrowding. There is a situation where you have to raise your voice to organize it.
Board members Deepak Pandey and Thakur Prasad Belwase, legal adviser of the council Advocate Anantaraj Luitel, acting chief officer of the council Deepak Khanal participated in the team led by the council Chairman Balkrishna Basnet. Chairman Basnet mentioned that the freedom of the press can only be saved by an independent and competent judiciary.
He was of the opinion that the independence of the courts is not for the judges, but for strengthening the common people and establishing the system, so the activities of both the organs should be focused on that.
