The Maulakalika Hospital in Chitwan district has begun offering Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) services from today.

Inaugurating the 8-bed PICU service, Bagmati Province Assembly member Bijaya Subba said that the Hospital services should be cooperative rather than competitive.

Children up to 14 years will be treated in the PICU. In lack of PICU services, except for in the two medical colleges and a children's hospital in the district, parents were compelled to seek the services for their children elsewhere.

The public health care facilities in the district also do not have PICU services.

Hospital's managing director Dr Keshavraj Bhurtel, on the occasion, pledged to make the services in the Hospital more effective.

Hospital's chairperson Dr Madiklal Manandhar shared that preparation was afoot to construct 100-bed well-equipped building to render high-level healthcare services.

Pediatrician Dr Sweta Kumari Gupta expressed her confidence that the newly inaugurated PICU service will benefit as many as patients in the coming days.

Apart from PICU, the Hospital also provides 10-bedded neo-natal intensive-care unit (NICU) and six0beded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) services.

Patients could also avail of services related to maternity, orthopedic, surgical, psychiatric, urology, medicine, and radiology among others.
