Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma, who is visiting America to participate in the annual meeting of World Bank and International Monetary Fund of the World Bank Group, and Samantha Power, the prominent administrator of the American Assistance Mission (USAID), had a meeting.
In the meeting held at the headquarters of USAD in Washington DC, the issue of establishing a strong foundation for bilateral interests and cooperation was discussed. In the meeting, Finance Minister Sharma praised the support provided by America in the economic and social development of Nepal.
In addition, Finance Minister Sharma requested effective support for the economic development of Nepal in the coming days. According to the Nepali Embassy in the US, Finance Minister Sharma asked Nepal to help face the challenges of information technology, climate change and priority areas. Finance Minister Sharma extended a cordial invitation to Chief Administrator Samanta Power to visit Nepal at an appropriate time.
Likewise, Power said that the meeting with the Minister of Finance of Nepal was fruitful, and that there will be support for the progress of Nepal-US partnership and the democratic practice of Nepal. Through social media, Power has written, "Both countries are ready to work together to face the immediate challenges.
Samantha Power, USAID's chief administrator, mentioned such challenges as climate change and food security.
Finance Secretary Krishnahari Pushkar, Ambassador of Nepal to America Sridhar Khatri and others who participated in the visiting party were also present in the meeting.
USAID has been an important support in economic and social development of Nepal. Last May alone, the said mission had announced an aid of 659 million dollars to Nepal for the next five years. Nepal will use this support to upgrade itself from an underdeveloped country to a medium-level developing country. @Suchana Mishra
