All-party meet called by Speaker Sapkota begins

The meeting of the senior leaders of the parties that represent the parliament called by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota, has begun.

The speaker, who has been holding consultations with lawyers on a regular basis since President Bidhya Devi Bhandari dissolved the House on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the Council of Ministers on May 22, had sought a meeting with all the senior party leaders of the parliament today.

The all-party meeting is taking place at Lhotse Hall of the parliament in New Baneshwor.

Today, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), senior leader of CPN UML Madhav Kumar Nepal and Chairpersons of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal Upendra Yadav and Baburam Bhattarai are participating in the meeting.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the chairperson of CPN UML, has not participated in the meeting.

At present, the Supreme Court is hearing the writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives. Speaker Sapkota has called the meeting to discuss on the current political developments and what could be the next possible steps.

The House was dissolved on May 22 and the dates for the mid-term elections were also fixed. The mid-term elections are to be held in two phases on November 12 and 19.
