MoHP reports 3,075 new COVID cases, 2 deaths on Wednesday

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Wednesday confirmed the detection of 3,075 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 835,927. Additionally, 627 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded 2 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 184 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Tuesday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 11,607. Presently, there are 9,522 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 1,538 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 1168 cases, Lalitpur logged 236 cases and Bhaktapur logged 134 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 278 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Tuesday, a total of 814,798 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 97.2 per cent while the fatality rate is 1.4 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP Tuesday confirmed the detection of 2,444 new cases of coronavirus infection.

As of Wednesday, a total of 4,957,288people have undergone the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 11,690 people staying in isolation while 218 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 311.1 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 5,512,468 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 132 countries where The United States is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.
