The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) has begun conducting National Census, 2078.

The council of ministers has decided to conduct the census from Bhadra to Mangsir, the months in the lunar calendar. The decision was passed on 2078/05/21. Earlier, the census to be conducted in Baisakh had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 77 districts have been divided into 80 classes for the simplification of the population study. Out of the total 77 districts, three districts with huge populations — Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Morang — each has been divided into two classes, Information Officer at CBS, Tirtha Raj Chaulagain said.

As many as 8,000 supervisors have been mobilised for the census, added Chaulagain.

Following the census work for 20 days, the survey work will take place from November 11 to November 25. For this, a total of 39,000 enumerators will be deployed for the census work, 2078.

Nepal's population growth rate is estimated at 2 per cent, said Chaulagain. Likewise, the literacy rate of the country is expected to reach 70 per cent.

The population study is done through a technique called the Sampling method.

The population of Nepal is 30,464,764 as of Wednesday, September 15, 2021, according to CBS.

Prior to this, the national census was conducted in 2011. The national census is taken every 10 years.
