Nepal Bar Association, an umbrella organisation of law practitioners, has demanded to finalise the appointment of Chief Justice as soon as possible.
A delegation under the leadership of Association Chair, Gopal Krishna Ghimire, met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' at his official residence at Baluwatar today and demanded him to recommend for the appointment of Chief Justice immediately.
Chair Ghimire said they drew the PM's attention to finalise the appointment of CJ soon as justice delivery has been affected as the post of CJ and other justices at the Supreme Court have remained vacant.
There is a constitutional provision in which the Prime Minister functions as the chairperson of the constitutional council which appoints the Chief Justice and other Judges of the Supreme Court. The post of CJ at the Supreme Court has remained vacant since February 13, 2022.
Chair Ghimire, general-secretary Anjita Khanal, Bagmati Province vice-chair Harka Rawal, senior advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari, among others were present on the occasion.
