A team of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has arrived in Jumla to study the villages and wards declared by the government as crisis-hit areas.
Kankasundari, Sinja, Hima Rural Municipality and Tila Rural Municipality 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 Wards of Jumla District were damaged by floods and landslides after the incessant rains from 19th to 24th October, three days ago the government declared them as crisis areas. Pramila Rizal, Assistant Chief District Officer of District Administration Office Jumla informed that a three-member authority team led by Deputy Secretary Engineer Pawan Babu Bastola has arrived in Jumla to study it.
He said that after the government declared Jumla as a crisis zone, after a team from the authority came to study the vulnerable settlements, a meeting of the district disaster management committee was held on Wednesday and it was decided that each municipality would coordinate and facilitate the team of experts from the authority. According to Saprazia Rizal, it has been decided that each municipality will submit the details of all the damage so far to the district disaster management committee within seven days through the ward disaster management committee.
According to him, the authority's team went to Tatopani Rural Municipality on Wednesday for on-site study. He said that it has been decided to request the Ministry of Home Affairs, the state government and concerned NGOs to provide immediate food and non-food items as relief for the displaced families due to floods and landslides.
Under the Karnali highway, the road has been blocked by large stones falling in the Kalikot, Manma, Ranchuli, Vigam, Nagm road section, but since it is difficult for the rescue team to come from Kalikot to that area, a request is made to the Nandabox Gana of the Nepalese Army from Jumla to coordinate with the road department and the district administration of both districts to restore the highway. has decided to do.
Deepak Kumar Khadka, a member of the team from the authority, said that according to the disaster risk reduction procedure, the government will provide relief based on the nature of the damage. He said that in the case of Himalayan districts, the families affected by floods and landslides will get relief up to Rs 5 lakh, in the case of hilly districts Rs 4 lakh and in the case of Terai districts up to Rs 3 lakh.
According to the procedure, while managing the relief, it is mentioned that the local government must contribute 10 percent, the state 30 percent and the union 60 percent. The authority said that there is no problem for the reconstruction of the completely destroyed houses, but the government has a problem for the rehabilitation and relocation of the settlements.
