Nepal reports 3,702 new COVID cases, 109 deaths on Sunday

Nationwide COVID tally hits 557,124; death toll reaches 7,272

Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Sunday reported 3,702 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 557,124. Additionally, 667 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the Health Ministry has recorded 109 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 246 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Sunday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 7,272. Presently, there are 108,897 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 1,093 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 804 cases, Lalitpur logged 176 cases and Bhaktapur logged 113 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 6,205 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Sunday, a total of 440,955 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 79.2 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Saturday had reported 4,311 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 553,422.

According to the Health Ministry, 12,770 total tests were carried out in the last 24 hours of which 10,986 were RT-PCR tests while 1,784 were antigen tests.

As of Sunday, a total of 3,042,369 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 108,897 persons staying in isolation while 763 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 169.69 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 3,675,960 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, December 2020, a Reuters tally showed as of 9:17 am, on Sunday, May 30.

The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
