The Government of Nepal has planned to negotiate with India for making available the Covishield vaccine at the prices announced Wednesday to be sold within the country.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) and chief of the Health Coordination Department, Dr Jageshwor Gautam, told the NepalNews that the government has planned to appeal to India to make available 1 million doses of vaccine at the prices it has fixed to be sold within the country on Wednesday. He said the government's focus will be on receiving the vaccine at a cheaper price than the price fixed for exporting the vaccine.

The Serum Institute of India (SII) today fixed the prices of the Covishield vaccine at INRs 400 per dose for state governments and INRs 600 per dose for private hospitals in India.

The SII has asserted that the prices were announced as per the directive issued by the Government of India.

The Indian vaccine manufacturing company has stated that it will serve 50 per cent of the total production to India's vaccination programme, and the remaining part for the State governments and private hospitals.
