Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population on Monday has confirmed the first case of coronavirus variant that was discovered in the UK last month.
The swab samples of three people who recently returned from the UK sent to World Health Organization (WHO) in Hong Kong on January 11 for a testing via gene sequencing have been confirmed to have contracted the new mutant virus, said the Ministry's Spokesperson Dr Jageshwor Gautam.
The infected persons included a 28-year-old woman and two men aged 67 and 32.
Of them, the 28-year-old woman and 32-year-old man have been tested negative whereas the 67-year-old man does not experience any symptoms despite having contracted the infection.
The Ministry has urged people to comply health protocol until Covid-19 vaccines are available in the country.
