The Sinja Rural Municipality of Jumla district has provided new mothers with Rs 5,000 each as maternity allowance.
Those expecting woman availing delivery services in the birthing centres are beneficiaries to the scheme, said Lalit Rokaya, chief of the Department of Health in Sinja Rural Municipality.
A new policy was adopted by the rural municipality to reduce the delivery of baby at home to nil and encourage the expecting mothers to visit the birthing centres for delivering baby.
So far, 26 new mothers in the rural municipality have received the allowance, shared Purna Prasad Dhital, Chairperson of the Rural Municipality.
All wards in the rural municipality have the birthing centres at present which is expected to reduce the maternal mortality rate as well as the neonatal mortality rate.
