The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the government and all sides concerned to conclude the transitional justice (TJ) process at the earliest possible time.
The NHRC has urged to finalize this issue soon by amending the Act on TJ and forming the commission at the earliest possible time in line with the international practice, Supreme Court's verdict, and its recommendations made in the past, NHRC Spokesperson Dr. Tikaram Pokharel said by issuing a press statement on Tuesday.
The NHRC has also stated that failure to conclude some of the issues of the TJ even after 16 years of the signing of the comprehensive peace accord (CPA) is unfortunate, though the conflict victims were supposed to get justice through TJ.
The NHRC has cautioned that concerns raised by some political parties over the issue of registration of a petition at the Supreme Court by some conflict survivors demanding justice could pose an unwanted impact on their right to seek justice.
The commission has concluded that the victim's right to seek justice should not be restricted in the cases of human rights violations though the procedures and processes for the TJ were different.
