NRCS gets 33-member new working committee

The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) has elected a 33-member new working committee under the leadership of Prof Sudarshan Nepal.

At a press conference organized today, Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Red Cross Society Umesh Dhakal informed that the office bearers of the Society were elected unopposed.

Both the election and nomination processes were involved in picking 26 member positions, he shared.

Among the office-bearers elected in the Society are Radha Nepali and Surendra Singh Eir (vice-chairs), Bhupatilal Shrestha (general-secretary), Bi Bahadur Basnet (treasurer), Manoj Kumar Thapa (deputy general secretary) and Dolraj Pandey (joint treasurer).

CEO Dhakal also informed that the organization had spent around Rs 1.76 billion for philanthropic service in the last fiscal year.

The main obligation of the organization is to provide assistance to the indigent in the emergency incidents and disasters such as flood and landslide.

The Society has come up with a plan to spend annual budget of Rs 1.5 billion for disaster management and drinking water projects in the current fiscal year.

Newly-elected Chairperson Nepal said the recent election has ended the protracted dispute and confusion that has been persisted in the organization in terms of picking leadership and pledged to make organizational presence further effective in humanitarian service.

On the occasion, the Central Blood Transfusion Service of the Nepal Red Cross shared information about its programmes on the occasion of the 58th blood transfusion day on Friday. ---
