Number of tigers in Shuklaphanta National Park has doubled

The number of spotted tigers has increased to 36. According to Manoj Iyer, Acting Chief Conservation Officer of the Park Office, there are 16 tigresses, 12 tigers and 8 unsexed tigers.

It is said that the number of tigers has increased due to the improvement in the habitat of tigers, the sufficiency of food species, water management, complete control of poachers and the cooperation and coordination of the residents of the central region. "The commitment to double the number of tigers within the year 2022 has been fulfilled", he said, "We have taken this as a very big achievement. Tiger counting was started from January, for 21 days with the help of automatic cameras.

According to the park office, tiger counting has been completed by dividing into 260 grids of 2 km length and 2 km width in Shuklaphanta-Laljhadi-Jogbudha complex. The park is known as an area where a large density of tigers can be found in a small area. Tiger counting has been going on in the park since 2008. In 2009, the number of tigers in the park was only eight. That number has increased to 36 now.

Last year, 19 spotted tigers were found in the park. In 2013, 17 tigers and in 2018, 16 tigers appeared. Two tigers were found dead in the park within two years. The park is spread over an area of ​​305 square kilometers.
