Farmers in Timure have started reaping the benefits of organic farming in Timure. Vegetable farming and livestock farming of chyangra (mountain goat) and chauri gai (a cross between a yak and a hill cow) had been started in Timure Khaidi area of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-2 about three years back.
Locals have stated that they have been earning enough after they adopted organic farming practices. Private farms that are associated with the Rasuwagadhi Organic Farming and Livestock Research Centre have started earning over Rs 80 lakh annually, as per the centre. The local farms at present have been rearing chickens, chyangra, chauri gai, yak and local breed of cows.
Meanwhile, the farmers have also been growing broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, potatoes and eight different varieties of spinaches that are preferred by the Chinese. Most of the local produce is consumed at the local level itself because Timure is a commercial centre of the region.
