Parliamentarians of the Madhav Nepal faction of the CPN-UML have decided not to tender a collective resignation. The decision was taken after there was some disagreement among the concerned parliamentarians. However, CPN-UML leader Bhim Bahadur Rawal said that the parliamentarians will not attend the House session today.
Rawal informed that though the concerned parliamentarians had decided not to tender their resignations at the moment they would not support Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli during the vote of confidence motion. He mentioned that the group concluded that they could not cast vote of confidence for the prime minister as he had dissolved the House of Representatives by bypassing the constitution, sought to divide the political parties, and promoted corruption in the country.
Earlier, parliamentarians of the Nepal-Khanal faction of the CPN-UML had decided to tender their resignations. The concerned parliamentarians had decided to resign as Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is the chairperson of the party, had ignored the ultimatum given by the Nepal-Khanal faction regarding the unity of the party.
Though the parliamentarians had decided to resign it was still not known exactly how many of them would be doing so. At present, there are 33 parliamentarians in the Nepal-Khanal faction of whom 23 have been elected through first-past-the-post voting and 10 through the proportional electoral system.
Leader Madhav Kumar Nepal had forwarded an ultimatum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Sunday night and the deadline for the response was at 9:00 am on Monday.
