On the occasion of Shri Panchami, farmers in Mithilanchal and Mahottari have worshiped plough and oxen today. Traditionally, farmers of Mithila have been worshiping plough and oxen as the beginning of agricultural work.

Farmers have worshiped in their yard by covering it with cow dung and placing plow with flowers, abir, rice, laddu and other items. Outside the house, the cows are bathed and worshiped with colorful ropes.

After worshiping the plough and the ox, farmers take it to a nearby field and plough for a while. Nowadays, many farmers use the newly purchased oxen to plough the field for the first time. It has also become customary for farmers to sharpen the plough and spade and use the agricultural tools including sickles and spades with new sharpeners.

On the occasion of Shri Panchami, the farmers prepare a kind of agricultural offering by mixing sugar in Arwa rice. Farmers of Mithilanchal believe that their farming has started from today and they start plowing their barren fields from today.

On this day, one can see hundreds of cows running together in the villages of Mithilanchal and farmers placing plough on their shoulders. Plough and bull worship has been performed simultaneously in 10 municipalities and five villages of the district including Jaleshwar.
