PM Dahal remembers Pradeep Giri as incomparable figure in Nepali politics

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that absence of socialist thinker and Nepali Congress (NC) leader the late Pradeep Giri has been highly realised in politics.

In his address to the first death anniversary of the late Giri at 'Giri Ashram' in Siraha on Friday, the Prime Minister remembered the late Giri as a simple and a very cooperative personality with extraordinary and innovative thoughts. "We have to learn many more things from him."

The programme was organised by the Pradeep Giri Memorial Trust in Lahan Municipality-14.

Giri possessed a distinct vision to understand, analyse and interpret philosophy, socialism and politics, according to Dahal.

"These all make him unique and an incomparable figure. His ideas and political culture are of highly significance with long-term relevancy."

On the occasion, the Prime Minister unveiled a life-size statue of the late Giri.

The head of the government also pledged to build a medical college in commemoration of leader Giri in Lahan, giving priorities to other physical infrastructure development in the town.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister said he is indebted to the Siraha folks who elected him in the 2070 elections, paving his way for the premiership for the second time.

Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Prasad (NP) Saud, National Assembly Vice-Chairperson Urmila Aryal, former ministers Matrika Prasad Yadav, Padma Narayan Chaudhary, Ajay Shanker Nayak, and Sita Devi Yadav were present at the programme.

The place where Giri was residing after 2046 BS near the Khutti River at Lahan -14 is known as the 'Giri Ashram'.

He is widely known as an adept interpreter of the socialist ideas of BP Koirala. He had passed away at the age of 75 while undergoing for cancer at Mediciti hospital in Lalitpur last year.
