Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had a telephone conversation. According to the Prime Minister's Secretariat, the two discussed issues related to poverty alleviation, development, and climate change in Nepal on Tuesday night.

Announcing the telephone conversation via tweet, Prime Minister Deuba noted, "We appreciate the 75 years of continued US support for our progress. We also discussed Russia's invasion of Ukraine and our support for Ukraine's sovereignty."

On the occasion, Secretary Blinken said that Nepal's decision to move ahead with the US aid project Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) would play a role in creating employment, building infrastructure, and improving the living standards of Nepali citizens along with power transmission lines and road projects.

Nepal government had approved the MCC compact earlier this week, leading to protests from Nepalese people in various places, most notably at Kathmandu and Birendranagar, the latter of which turned so violent that a curfew order was issued on Mahashivaratri.
