PM Deuba marks Social Service Day

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the essence of Social Service Day lies in social transformation, development of the society and eradication of social evils and harmful practices from the society.

In a message today on the occasion of the 42nd Social Service Day, Prime Minister Deuba said the essence of the Eastern philosophy of 'Sarbajan Hitaya, Sarbajan Sukhaya' is found to be social service. In today's word, as the gap between have and have not is widening, and the United Nations and its member states signed a document of collective commitment to sustainable development goals. The basic principle of which is to leave no one behind.

He also expressed the confidence that this year's Social Service Day would be successful in building partnerships for development in nation building. Stating that physical development and human development would not be possible with the sole efforts of the government, Prime Minister Deuba said that it would require commitment, cooperation and support from the people at large.

Prime Minister Deuba has, in the message, lauded the efforts of national and international non-governmental organizations to directly or indirectly participate in the social development and transformation of the country, embracing the concepts of poverty alleviation, social justice, equality and human rights.

He has also called upon all the social workers and organizations to work for the development of a civilized and dignified society by partnering with various individuals and organizations involved in social service.
