President Bidya Devi Bhandari has revoked the Ordinance related to Political Parties (Second Amendment)-2078 BS on Monday at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
The President scrapped the Ordinance issued by the government on August 25 to facilitate the split of the main opposition party, the CPN-UML in accordance with Article 114 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, said Jagannath Panta, spokesperson at the Office of the President.
After the President withdrew the ordinance on party division, the main articles of the law on political parties have become inactive. When the ordinance was withdrawn, it was not issued along with the ordinance reviving the old law.
After withdrawing the amendment made by the ordinance, the provisions in the old act have become inactive. Accordingly, there are no nationally recognized parties in the country now. In order to revive the old law, the government should bring a replacement bill in the parliament and pass it. Otherwise, the old provisions should be revived by bringing an ordinance after concluding the sitting of the parliament.
