Addressing a joint meeting of the House of Parliament today, President Bidya Devi Bhandari said that necessary laws would be enacted to strengthen federalism and presented the government's policy and program.
President Bhandari expressed happiness over the success of local elections for the second time after the promulgation of the constitution. She was happy that elections were held even in places where it wasn't held last time. Along with informing that the Gautam Buddha International Airport, Bhairahawa, and the dry port at Chobar have both come into operation, she added that the newly constructed international airport in Pokhara will also be brought into operation soon.
The President informed that the government has generated 638 megawatts of electricity, paved 325 kilometers of roads, and constructed 100 bridges within a year. She said that drinking water has been provided to 85,000 people by reconstructing the Melamchi Drinking Water Project.
According to her, the government prioritized good governance, poverty alleviation, emphasis on financial discipline in budget implementation, and reviewing the tax system. She mentioned that the flow of credit would be facilitated, various public institutions would be merged and scrapped and closed industries would be brought back into operation.
President Bhandari further said that agriculture would be made the main source of employment. On top of it, organic farming would be encouraged, import of chemical fertilizers would be ensured, relief would be provided for the damage caused to agriculture due to rains, and vaccines for livestock would be made in Nepal.
She said that the problems of squatters will be prioritized, state property would be protected and other government property would also be searched.
President Bhandari said that the concept of making in Nepal and made in Nepal would support the Nepali industry, attract foreign investment in Nepal, encourage pharmaceutical production in Nepal and improve the supply of medicines.
