President Bidhya Devi Bhandari held a meeting with the officials of the Ministry of Health and Population to take stock of the COVID-19 situation in the country. She enquired about the measures that the ministry had taken to control and prevent the spread of the coronavirus in Nepal.
President Bhandari had called Health Minsiter Sher Bahadur Tamang and other ministry officials to Shital Niwas on Sunday to hold discussions on the current situation. Deputy Spokesperson of the Health Minsitry, Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari informed that the president was provided information regarding the various measures taken to control and prevent the spread of the virus in the country.
Dr Adhikari added that President Bhandari was also apprised about the vaccination drive against the virus and also the overall situation of the health sector in Nepal.
During the meeting, the president directed the health minister and other officials to work more efficiently to control the virus. She also urged the ministry to give priority to the vaccination drive. President Bhandari also advised to prepare for a possible third wave of the coronavirus and start working on those measures immediately. She also mentioned that since health of the citizens was the responsibility of the government the health ministry should make sure that all citizens can access proper health services across the country.
Meanwhile, President Bhandari also urged the health ministry to collaborate with universities to conduct research on various health issues. She also directed the officials to upgrade the facilities at Kanti Children’s Hospital in Maharajgunj so that children are able to receive proper treatment.
