The construction of the building of the regional prison at Nauwastha in Baijnath Gaonpalika-2 of Banke has reached its final stage. The four-unit prison has 28 rooms in two buildings. A workshop hall has also been constructed to run tea, lunch and shops.
He said that most of the inmates in the 3,000-capacity district jail and most of the inmates will be transferred from the jail. Inmates from Rolpa, Dailekh, Kaski, Rupandehi, Achham and other districts will be transferred to the prison.
Chief District Officer Surya Bahadur Khatri said that the prison would be operational soon and expressed confidence that the inmates would be relieved after the new state-of-the-art prison is built. Jailer Sonkar informed that out of the 756 inmates in the district jail, about 500 inmates will be transferred to the regional jail after the construction of the prison at a cost of Rs. 4 hundred 10 million.
It is said that the construction work of the regional prison has been delayed due to the non-performance of the construction company. Now a lot of work has been completed, so the jail will be operational after Dashain, said Sonkar, jailor of the district jail. The district jail, which has a capacity of 350 inmates, has more than doubled its capacity.
